bathrooms

OK... i don't get it... i really don't.

I've had the pleasure of working late a lot recently... and as such.. i've gotten to know the cleaning crew and the security guys pretty well.

Today I had the pleasure of walking by the bathrooms at work while they were being cleaned. I'm very familiar with the guys bathrooms in the office. They are like bathrooms... blue tile floor, which extends about 4 feet up the walls with a lighter tile above that (i think.. i'm going off memory).

But, i caught a look into the woman's restroom... and theirs is carpeted (granted, same rugged office carpeting), and they have mauve wallpaper.. and chairs to sit around in.

This raises several interesting questions... Do people hang out in the bathroom at work and relax? Do they talk to other people? I know in the men's room, its all business... you rarely acknowledge other people (except for those few people who don't seem to know that rule, and they make everyone uncomfortable). And carpeting? I wonder if that extends into the other areas or if thats just in the lounge area that I saw... but a carpeted bathroom sounds like hell to keep clean. Or maybe guys are just slobs. or maybe they thing that the guys bathroom appeals to guys more...

Do they really put thought into this kind of stuff?!? Are consultants that do research on this and recommend to companies how their bathrooms should be?

i have about a thousand other questions... but i think i need to go back and look again next time I'm alone in the building. One thing is true... I've put FAR too much thought into this already...

Women chat about little Johnny cutting his first tooth in the bathroom...

I'm guessing this is what it would be like in the bathroom if men chatted as much as women in the bathroom?

Hmmmm, I have been working late a LOT lately as well. First at about 5:45pm they clean the hallway floor with this scrubbie machine round thing. Around 6pm, they are cleaning the bathroom and I have to wait until they are done. UGH! Then, at 7pm the Air Conditioning is turned off. Then around 745pm, the garbage guys come around and empty everyone's garbage cans. Then at about 9pm, they start vaccuming. The funny thing is that the mexican dude (he really is mexican) asks, me, "you mind if i vaccuum?" and i'm like, dude, you have a vaccuum in your hand, so just vaccuum, forget about me!? wtf?" anyway, then around 12midnight, the cleaning crew start slacking off. I was in a conference room by myself one day at about midnight and I made the mistake of speaking spanish to them. then they are all like, ohhhh you speeekkk spannishhh?? and im like si! then I am stuck there talking in spanish with my horrible accent to these people i dont want to talk to because i'm at work at 12am as it is! Anyway, it's funny you recognise the cleaning people because i know the schedule of the facilities management after hours activities very well, too. LOL. the joys of having a job. Ya know, at this rate, I'm only making like $10/hr. what a waste! GRRRRRR. Ok, have a nice day. I just got home from work now, after talking with the garbage can people (since I left right after 7:45 in case you were wondering. haha). they asked me "much trabajo?" and i was like yeah... it sucks dude, then i started speaking in spanish with my bad accent again. hahaha they probably go vaccuum and laugh about me hahah ok that is all. good night and here's to the nighttime cleaning crew! By the way, our girls bathroom does not have carpet! But we do have a chair usually. sometimes it ends up in the handicapped stall. not sure what that is all about.... hahaha.. one day i heard someone shaving something in there... i was like uhhhh ok, im gonna leave that one alone. and sometimes the chair is just GONE? weird how things like that you notice and never find the answer to. where DID that chair go? alas, we shall never know.
